NTU undergrad passes away in freak accident in Czech Republic

In an email to students, NTU President Bertil Andersson said that a 3rd year mechanical engineering undergraduate had passed away in a freak accident in the Czech Republic, where he was an exchange student at the Technical University Ostrava.

Justin Tan Honng Tze – who represented Singapore at the 2011 South-east Asian Games in sport climbing – was driving alone when a tree fell on the rented car he was in during a storm.

The 23-year-old was subsequently sent to hospital by a rescue crew but did not regain consciousness.

The university said in a Facebook post that they “would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Justin on their loss.”

His body will be cremated in Slovakia while his parents will return with his ashes to Singapore have decided to donate his organs to patients in Slovakia.
